DORAN and Camron

At Caring Pathways, we are privileged to support many incredible individuals and their families. Here, we share the inspiring story of Doran and Camron, two of our longtime wonderful clients, as told by their father Chuck.

Discovering Caring Pathways

Chuck and his late wife, Pam, first learned about Caring Pathways through Jan, our president, and a close acquaintance of Pam. Dissatisfied with the previous day habilitation (day hab) program Doran was attending due to its size and lack of individualized attention, they decided to explore other options. "Pam was always looking out for the best interests of our boys," Chuck recalls. "She knew Jan and trusted her vision for Caring Pathways. When we visited during an open house, we were thoroughly impressed and knew it was the right place for Doran."

A Family's Commitment

Their family's commitment to Caring Pathways went beyond just enrolling Doran. Chuck himself pitched in, helping with preparations before Caring Pathways opened. "I worked there for a full Saturday with Carol, installing a new sink and dryer," he shares. This hands-on involvement reflects the longstanding relationship Doran’s family has had with us here at Caring Pathways.

Welcoming Camron

When it became clear that managing both Doran and Camron’s daily schedules was logistically challenging, Jan made a special effort to accommodate Camron at Caring Pathways despite being at maximum capacity. "Driving 600 miles a week was just too much," Chuck explains. "Jan’s willingness to make space for Camron was a tremendous relief."

Understanding Doran and Camron

Doran's autism brings unique challenges and quirks, particularly his strict adherence to schedules and fascination with weather. "Everything has to have a time," Chuck explains. "He gets anxious if things aren't on schedule." At home, Doran's special spot by the window (or his “observation station” according to Chuck) allows him to keep an eye on the weather, a routine that brings him comfort.

Camron, on the other hand, has struggled more with social interactions and change, often experiencing meltdowns. However, through the consistent support and strategies taught by Chuck and the caregivers here at Caring Pathways, Camron has made significant progress. "He used to have severe meltdowns, but now I can bring him back by talking to him and getting him to focus," Chuck notes.

Activities and Academics

Both Doran and Camron have found joy and growth in the activities offered at Caring Pathways. Doran particularly enjoys movie time, music, and, of course, lunchtime. "He’s a big music person," Chuck says. "We watch shows like The Masked Singer together because he loves the music." Academics have also become an integral part of their routine. "Doran can read very well and do simple math, and Camron is also making strides in reading and math," Chuck proudly shares.

A Loving Environment

The positive environment at Caring Pathways has been a cornerstone of Doran and Camron’s development. Doran, who tends to be more reserved, has formed strong bonds with caregivers like Tina, Alfred, and Stephanie. Camron, despite his challenges, also shares a special connection with the caregivers. "The staff at Caring Pathways are amazing. They are caring, understanding, and have been a blessing to us," Chuck affirms.

A Father's Dedication

Chuck’s journey with his sons is one of unwavering dedication and love. Having lost his wife, Pam, in 2021, he has taken on the role of primary caregiver with grace and strength. "I made a promise to my wife to take care of the boys, and they are my priority," Chuck states. His commitment ensures that Doran and Camron will continue to thrive, supported by a network of family members who have pledged to care for them in the future.

Gratitude and Hope

Chuck’s gratitude towards Caring Pathways is profoundly appreciated. "It’s an absolute blessing. The caregivers and staff are wonderful people who do an amazing job," he says. As we at Caring Pathways continue to support Doran, Camron, and all our clients, stories like theirs remind us of the impact compassionate care and a loving community can have.

Thank you, Chuck, for sharing your story and allowing us to be a part of Doran and Camron's journey. We look forward to many more years of growth, joy, and support together.
